Geometry & Corner Weighting

We are one of the South West leading specialists in
geometry and chassis setup, including corner weighting

Benefits of our off-the-shelf and bespoke geometry setups

Bringing your car to Harvey’s for a geometry setup you can be confident that your car is in great hands. With years of experience race preparing our own cars, we regularly setup all sorts of performance, track and race cars, Everything from Ferraris to Single Seaters and everything in between.

As a keen driver you will quickly feel the difference after the geometry has been adjusted. Of course it depends on what you’re looking to achieve, but you can expect to feel much more confidence in the car, especially when you’re pushing on. Turn in, cornering grip from entry through to exit as well as handling predictability can all be massively improved with our geometry.

We’ve built a great reputation based on the excellent results we get and have customers travel from all over the country to have their setup done by us.

The geometry adjustment process

There are 5 key areas that we will adjust during the setup process, with each area having a different effect on the handling characteristics of the car:

Alignment (toe in and out)

The toe measurement is the difference in the distance between the front of the tyres and the back of the tyres. Toe-in means that the fronts of the tyres are closer to each other than the rears. Toe- out is just the opposite.

Caster

Caster is the forward or backward tilt of the upper ball joint relative to the lower ball joint. When viewed from the side of the vehicle, if the top of the pivot is leaning toward the rear of the car, then the caster is positive. If it is leaning toward the front, it is negative.

Camber

Camber is the angle of the wheel when viewed from the front of the vehicle. If the top of the wheel is leaning out from the car, then the camber is positive, if it’s leaning in, then the camber is negative.

Set Back

Set back is the amount by which one front wheel is further back than the other. If the left wheel is further back than the right, setback is negative. If the right wheel is further back than the left, setback is positive.

Thrust Angle

Thrust angle is the direction that the rear wheels are pointing in relation to the centre line of the vehicle. If the thrust line is to the right, the angle is said to be positive. If the thrust line is to the left the angle is negative. This process is also used on high performance vehicles for track set up and as part of the accident repair process.

Tailor your setup to you and your car

Before any geometry setup we take the time to chat about you, your car and what you’re looking for. Whatever your car or intended use, we will use our motorsport grade equipment to accurately dial your cars geometry in just the way you want it.

We can also offer corner weighting, which is especially valuable for anyone looking to extract those precious extra seconds from their race car.

You’re likely to find cars we have set up at most track days or race meets that you go to.

  • If we need to keep the car overnight, we’ll safely store it for you in our secure unit.
